One point for development is POIs. Of course the requirements for topos is somewhat different from streetmaps. Huts and trailheads would be a definite. Building, building, building is not really satisfactory but I did notice that when I loaded the street routing maps the POIs there took precidence and Building building building disappeared altogether.
Another approach could be no POIs at all. People in the backcountry will generally have their own favorite places and load them as waypoints, maybe leave it at that.
A problem I have with POIs on Brent's maps is that while I can search for all huts on Mapsource, when loaded into the GPS, I cannot search for huts in the North Island. South Island Huts are OK. But the odd thing is that on the first version of Brent's Maps I had it was the other way around. Huts in the North Island were searchable but South Island ones weren't.
I am not sure how much control you have over POIs Gary but it would seem that trivial POIs like unnamed buildings and spot heights should not appear in the search list, but huts should.
Any thoughts
